#11 Moments on Knowing…

I had an interaction last week sometime that was a bit unsettling. Despite the fact that it left me a bit uncomfortable, with the subject asking me really big, hard questions – those ones we often want to or tend to ignore like… “What are your next steps..?” or “Where do you see yourself in xxx amount of years?” or even worse… “What is your end goal?”… If you’re going through a bit of a transition period as I am, you end up fumbling uncomfortably for the better part of conversations with these people and look for any way to change the subject. Afterwards, like I did, there is a possibility that you may end up feeling a bit dejected, even more lost and a bit disappointed at not having clear, straight answers for seemingly simple questions!

And yet, why do we, as well as the world and society and peers and and and… put all this pressure on us to have to always know! The recent spate of the “busyness” syndrome as I like to label it, has resulted in the world being obsessed with being so super busy/engaged/booked out for weeks if not months at a time in our calendars and diaries. To not know or have an idea of what you’re doing for your full week ahead let alone next month is often looked down upon. Yes, I must admit, that Covid brought a slight disruption to this with many realising the power of the pause, or not planning ad nauseum to the end of the earth and back.. but old habits really do die hard as I have borne witness to in recent months…

This interaction however, gave me the opportunity to truly dig a bit deeper and ask myself THOSE questions. About what I want for me. About why I’m doing what I’m doing, and whether I’ve started becoming a cop-out of sorts about just taking things that have come across my path rather than actively engage in seeking those things that make my mind and passions come alive. Sound familiar?

If you’ve been feeling this of late, I’m here to tell you – IT’S OKAY! Covid has indeed made many people question the bigger things in life, with the average person realising the importance not only of work-life balance, but the importance of taking care of yourself and well-being. This includes carving out some more “ME” time throughout your days or weeks, making time for little things you enjoy like walks and exercise and maybe an art class or even just a simple coffee with friends or family. If anything, we are more aware about the preciousness of each moment, and how once gone, we can never get that moment back – no matter how much money or wealth one has…

So today, and this week ahead, I encourage to not only EMBRACE those times of unknowingness as I like to term it i.e. not knowing what you ought to/should know… but also tapping to that little hidden super power we all have deep within us – our intuition or otherwise known as that inside voice that instinctively tells us what to do (or not do!) without any reasoning. Somehow, the answers are all inside of us already. We already know, without even knowing and it’s often interactions like this that take us to the edge of our comfort zone, that we are forced to retort back to answer without realising that what we’ve answered is the truth we’ve been seeking all along!

Be kind and gentle to yourselves and those around you.

Much love always , Poonam
