#7 Moments with the 13th…

Today is Friday 13th. The one and only of 2022, a standard calendar year will have at least one, and up to three Friday the 13ths in the same year. Considered unlucky according to Western superstition, the day has become famous for scary, out of the ordinary and not so awesome things predicted or bound to happen on this day! A quick Google search brings up just this – telling one about the background of the number 13 and it’s associations with unluckiness, and somehow being linked to a Friday. From Norse mythology, to Christian connotations to even 13th century French history, the origins surrounding the beliefs of this day are endless.

It took a random reader in my Grade 3 year to put a spin on this not-so-auspicious day. I can’t for the life of me remember the name of the book, but the story followed a young little boy who expecting the worst out of this notorious day, ended up having endless luck drawn to him instead. Ever since then, I have always viewed this day in a different light…

Good or bad? Lucky or unlucky? There’s always more than one side to anything… in some cultures, the number 13 is considered to be sacred and the bringer of good fortune. Associated with the Great Goddesses, the number and day of Friday 13th was thus considered a special day.

So what is that one or few things in your life that you could possibly view in a different light? Something you possibly thought bad but actually has been a blessing? Or something or someone you thought was unlucky but has actually brought you luck and fortune? It’s all a matter of perspective at the end of the day – and we each have the choice as to how we view and handle all these anomalies that life places in our path!

So today, I have filled my day with fun, pleasant things and have made an extra effort to celebrate this one and only lucky/unlucky day of 2022… what will you do?

Happy Friday 13th everyone. Take care and happy weekend…

Much love always, Poonam
